Welcoming Ben Mooney to Humble Warrior Therapy
One of the things I've learned over the years is that you can't always explain why someone feels right.
Sometimes you meet someone and your nervous system relaxes.
You feel safe.
You feel seen.
You leave the conversation feeling just a little lighter than when you arrived.
I've come to trust those moments.
They're usually telling me something my mind hasn't caught up to yet.
I'm so excited to share that Humble Warrior Therapy is growing, and I couldn't imagine a better person to welcome into this community than Ben Mooney.
When You Meet a Healer, You Know
Ben found Humble Warrior through one of our plant medicine retreats. His sister-in-law, who teaches at Buka, had shared information about our work, and that's what first brought him through the door.
From our very first conversation, something stood out.
Not his résumé.
Not his credentials.
His presence.
Ben has one of those rare qualities that can't be taught. He has a calm, grounded way of being that immediately puts people at ease. He's deeply curious, incredibly compassionate, and he meets people without judgment.
I remember thinking, "This is a healer."
As we spent more time together through our retreats, it became clear that this wasn't just someone visiting our community.
He belonged here.
Then I learned something that stopped me in my tracks.
I learned that Ben, his wife, and their three children had lived on the very same road in Costa Rica that has become one of the most meaningful places in my own life.
Sometimes life has a funny way of confirming what your heart already knows.
The Part That Can't Be Taught
Ben brings more than twenty-six years of clinical experience to this work.
He is a licensed Occupational Therapist, currently completing his graduate counseling internship at Adams State University. He's Level 1 trained in Internal Family Systems (IFS) and has a special interest in helping people who struggle with insomnia.
But if you've followed my work for any length of time, you know credentials are only one piece of what matters.
The way someone listens matters.
The way someone makes you feel matters.
The way someone sits with another person's suffering matters.
Ben does all of that beautifully.
He brings warmth, humility, curiosity, and genuine care into every interaction. He's also a husband, father, outdoor adventurer, hockey player, backpacker, and lifelong learner. He understands that healing isn't something we master. It's something we continue practicing together.
Growing Our Community
Ben will also become an important part of our work through the Center for Plant Medicine, supporting our retreats and helping people integrate the experiences that often create lasting transformation.
Watching Humble Warrior Therapy grow has never been about becoming bigger.
It's about becoming deeper.
Finding people whose values align so completely with this work that they naturally become part of the community we're building together.
Ben is one of those people.
